ENCSS 2008 Symposium and Workshop on Water Resources

ENCSS 2008 Symposium and Workshop on Water Resources

 July-August, 2008

Given its essentiality for living and economic development, water has become a global issue that all the world’s leaders have to face. How to efficiently manage, protect and utilize water resources has been a challenge that needs to be properly addressed in a timely manner. China’s quick economic development in the past decades has amazed the world, but it is also accompanied by increasing water related problems which have shown many negative impacts on the nation’s economic development and sustainable future. The large population, unbalanced regional development, diverse geographic distribution and many other factors have made China’s water issues even more complicated. In this context, following questions may at the top priority to be addressed: 1) how to identify and monitor the causes of the water issues in different regions; 2) how to import and develop new policies, technologies and knowledge to meet the needs for solving those different water issues; 3) how to establish a high-efficiency working model, including international collaborations, among related parties to implement the policies and solutions.

In corporation with government agencies, academic institutions and business communities in China, Wisconsin and other U.S. states, the ENCSS 2008 Symposium and Workshop will provide a mutual learning opportunity for Chinese government officials, academic experts and business leaders to analyze the water issues in China and the U.S., promote communication between Chinese and the U.S. parties for sharing information and experiences on water related issues, and provide the supporting logic for solving water issues in both countries.

The event will include three parts: 1) the orientation/introduction session at East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai, China; 2) the symposium and workshop in Bjorklunden in Door County of Wisconsin for academic and business exchanges; 3) the field trips in Wisconsin for demonstrating water related technologies and practices and their implementation.
